RoverTown was born in 2009 when a student at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL found himself wishing for a simple way to find and use his student discounts. That student was RoverTown's CEO Mike Philip.

Philip started out by selling "RoverCards" to students on the SIU campus. These were physical cards that students could purchase to get exclusive discounts. The participating businesses were listed on the back of the card, but soon Philip signed up so many that he ran out of room to show them all. His ever-expanding discount program needed a better system..

That's when CTO Michael Rzeznik and COO Jeffry Harrison joined the RoverTeam and together they would found RoverTown - a student discount program entirely

RoverTown is truly a company created by students for students, which means Philip, Rzeznik, and Harrison had to start small. But soon a big window of opportunity with the St. Louis Arch Grants program led the three founders to St. Louis with a $50,000 grant. From that moment on, RoverTown continued to gain traction with students, businesses, and investors.

Today, RoverTown has expanded to over 100 colleges and universities, signed up over 1500 businesses, and given over 2 million students 100% FREE access to the RoverTown Mobile Student Discount Program.
